Hide AdToday the four chief medical officers of the UK finally confirmed what many scientists had been saying for weeks – that anosmia, or loss of smell, should be added to the other warning symptoms of a continuous cough and high temperature
This means a huge number of cases of Covid-19 may have been missed, and people showing no other symptoms may not have realised they were infected.
These people, not knowing they should be self-isolating, may have unwittingly infected others.
Experts from London's King’s College say data from 1.5 million people who downloaded their symptom-reporting app suggests between 50,000 to 70,000 people in the UK had been missed.

Fortunately now though, Milton Keynes' infection rate is dropping.
At the beginning of the pandemic, the city had more Covid-19 cases that neighbouring Bedford and Luton. Now, however, MK is the lowest of the three towns with 507 confirmed cases in total..
Today's national death toll was 160 - the lowest daily total since lockdown began.
There were 2,684 new lab-confirmed cases in the UK over the past 24 hours
