Six of PJ Care’s staff members have taken their first steps towards becoming Care Practitioners.

The firm launched a pathway towards becoming a Care Practitioner, aimed at helping colleagues gain new skills and higher rates of pay, while delivering even better care to residents.

The Care Home Advance Practitioner training (CHAPS) has been completed by six staff at Grange Farm and Shenley Lodge care centres, with the first graduated candidates giving really positive feedback.

Renju Johny said: “I’m thrilled to have passed these assessments and exams. The support I get from the nurses and my manager gave me the confidence to go for it. They’ve encouraged me to now apply for one of the Care Practitioner jobs. It would mean more money for me, which is always a good thing, but it would also give me the chance to take on new challenges, have more responsibility and do even more for the residents.

“It makes me really happy to think that I‘d be able to do even more for them. I’m excited about where this could take me”

“The study has been hard work but I’ve had lots of support from the managers at PJ Care. Being able to learn practical skills at work has been so useful; it’s the best place to learn. I can ask the nurses anything if I’m not sure, they never make me feel as if it’s a silly question.”

Who is it for?

These enhanced roles are open to experienced care staff who want to take their careers forward.

It is also an ideal stepping stone for senior carers who dream of training in nursing.

What is involved?

The intensive training course will open the door to them becoming Care Practitioners. It is made up of practical assessments and theoretical study.

Candidates not only grow in confidence, competence, knowledge and skill, but ensure that the delivery of care is improved for residents.

Benefits

As well as the additional skills and qualifications, Care Practitioners can earn up to £12 per hour.
