Horses and officers from Thames Valley Police practiced dealing with protests and demonstrations on Thursday (November 20).

About 20 officers and three horses from the force practiced tactics around keeping crowds apart, moving crowds back, and escorting groups.

The practice, which took place at a training centre in Oxfordshire, was also an opportunity for foot officers to learn how to work with horses.

PC Kev Simmons, a mounted officer who took part in the session, said: “The horses carried out the exercises in a textbook fashion.

“They did what they are trained to do, and helped teach the officers on foot about how to work with horses and crowds.”
