City keep up the pressure at the top

Milton Keynes remain on course for a second place finish in Berks/Bucks & Oxon Premier with a 41-19 win over Alchester.

City were keen to put the memories of last week’s defeat to league leaders Gosford All Blacks, behind them and they got off to a great start when they were awarded and early penalty following a scrum infringement by Alchester.

Full back Brian Purcell was accurate and City had a three point lead within five minutes of the game starting. Purcell was again on the scoreboard following another penalty against Alchester, to give the City boy’s a 6-0 lead.

Within a short while Milton Keynes earned another penalty to make it 9-0 thanks to Purcell.

City had enjoyed much of the possession and a good deal of the territory and moved further into the lead with a great team try finished off by winger Dan Pearson and conversion from Purcell, 16-0. A further Purcell penalty saw the second half finish at 19-0 to City.

The second half was again littered with penalties for both sides but City kept up the scoring with a second try from Pearson and further tries from Rob Matthews and Tim Parkinson. Purcell with two more conversions together with another penalty.

In response Alchester crossed the City line for 3 tries of their own to leave the final score at 41-19.
